Isidia

Singular Isidium

Asexual reproductive lichen structures. They can take on various shapes from spikes to more globular shapes, they can be branched or un branched. From afar they often look like sandpaper. They are commonly found on various Xanthoparmelia species. Although I have yet to obtain my own photos they can be present inside of soredia. These tiny pieces of lichen are designed to shed, an given the right conditions will give rise to a new lichen when the happen to land in the right place.
